Rear locking lugs. Not used anymore by anyone. Considered inferior but? I like the idea of both front & rear locking lugs as u think might provide superior accuracy. Think about both push pull "isometrics" with your arms to steady a pistol. If both front and rear lugs have sane push pull effect against one another esp with 3-4 lugs on both ends it will lock the bolt up lined up with the barrel round way more precisely every time. Problem is for this to be done? Requires both sets of lugs to be hand lapped in on every rifle.(Grinded down with lapping counpound till it will finally close) Bet this is why it has never been done. Too expensive per man hours for any manufacturs to do

I bought one for $179 without the scope in about 1971 . Oddly it had Savage and Holland & Holland acceptance marks. I did find an Israeli knock off of a No. 32 scope.

Here's my Lee Enfield Sniper that I restored. It is a Candian Long Branch. Mine is a faux rifle without the matched markings. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWpZGJpk6fk&t=84s.

I had the priviledge of handling one like this years ago. It was a Canadian rig, I'm not sure about the differences in the British and the Candians. It was 30+ years ago.

I once had a SMLE that the wood, not walnut, was a very light color. It shot some 4 inches to one side at just 25 yards. I found the fore stock was very much warped to one side. The substitute wood was so badly warped as to be unusable.

@Kysushanz
I bought a No.4 MkII Maltby 1944 (T). It didn't have matching sight and rifle but I was just glad to have got my hands on a (T). However, on careful inspection, several issues started to show up - all the markings didn't correspond to what I would expect on a 1944 (T). On removing the top woodwork I found the stamping 'REGULATED BY FULTON". Fulton was the final word on anything connected with .303's in England and it appears that this was an extremely good Range Rifle, probably shot at Bisley and Fulton did his wonder work on it. So, as far as I am concerned, I have a perfectly fine No4. MkII that shoots as accurately as any (T) - I demonstrated it at a sniper's course (NZ Army) and hit clay pigeons at 550 metres with standard MkVII ammunition. Not bad!

@peghead
Surplus "Enfield" Warning: The following notice from the United Kingdom Liaison Office, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. " 1. In July 1987 a U.K. M.O.D. ban was placed on the firing of ball rounds from cal. .303 No. 4 rifles in U.K. service as a result of two explosions in the chamber area of the weapons and resulted in burst barrels. 2. U.K. M.O.D. investigations found that the barrel explosions were as a result of severe 'craze cracking' of the two barrels which were of indeterminate age and life. 3. U.K. M.O.D. have initiated a study into why some barrels suffer craze cracking and others do not, but results of this are not expected to be complete for some time, and even then might not be conclusive. 4. Because, in peace-time, cal. .303 No. 4 rifles are only used in Cadet units, it has been decided that it is not cost-effective to carry out detailed examinations of all barrels, particularly as the Cadets are being issued with the new L98A1 Cadet GP Rifle. The firing ban will therefore remain in force. 5. Users of the No. 4 rifle worldwide, whether civilian or military, are STRONGLY ADVISED to have the weapons examined for signs of craze cracking (by an experienced gunsmith) and condemned accordingly. Thereafter, it is RECOMMENDED that any barrels which have PASSED such inspection should be EXAMINED REGULARLY for such signs and condemned if necessary." ( from a compilation of articles published in American Rifleman magazine, Author unknown) As an owner/shooter of surplus rifles, I thought this may be of interest to your viewers/subscribers and the purchasers of the recently acquired lot of No. 4 rifles from France being offered for sale from Navy Arms.

Thank you ! As a CCF cadet we used Mk4s and I really loved the experience . On an indoor range we had MK4s with a .22 bore inside the original barrel , which made for an even heavier rifle , but there was a certain lack of kick !
If I lived in a place where ownership was allowed and necessity for a rifle was present I think I might still choose one of these beauties even today . They more than proved their worth in rough environments !

Nice video well presented on a fantastic rifle. I fired the Lee Enfield on the range in the Air Cadets 1280 sq full bore .303. Loved it, 250 yds five rounds in your own time commence firing, 46 years ago! Pirbright and Bisley and a number of other places normally RAF camps. Brought back some memories. Went through some rounds.

When i fired the 7,62 version of the Lee Enfield with sling we fired it from the right shoulder, and operated with the right hand. I was taught by my great uncle a Royal Marine in ww2 and after. I also fired a number of Parker-Hale sporterised, accurised versions with the Lee Enfield action, superbly accurate rifles. He landed on D-Day and later in the war was a trained sniper. I always loved these rifles, even when i moved on to the L85 and the Diemaco etc in the UK

Are the lands and grooves different on a sniper rifle ? I saw another tube video that said the sniper rifle had six lands and grooves and the regular had two. Also that brush you identified as being for a .45 was for an AR-15/M-16 chamber.

You have told me more about a lee Enfield than I have ever known in one video I inherited my dad's no4 mark2 which was the first rifle I ever shot except a 22 also had a new unissued one just like my dad's gave it to my brother my dad mail ordered it and back in the 50s it was common to sporterize them so he made a stock put on very nice set of lumens front and rear with a peep sight and at 1 hundred yards with iron sights I could shoot 2 in.groups all day but now I'm 65 and my vision is gone but for a gun that old it is accurate and smooth as silk herein the states you have to spend a lot of money to get a gun of the same quality it will be passed on to my family when I'm gone awesome gun thanks I will watch more of your videos for all your info and subscribe

Mine has all of the necessary marks but the cheek piece is weird. Looks like a shark fin and I'v never seen another with that type of cheek piece. It may be a fake sniper rifle but it is fun to shoot. I reload the rounds to as close to military as I can get. The exterior is good, the rifling is badly pitted but it hits well out to 100 yards.

@MetamorphicWonders
I have one of these, ( see my channel) Personally I think taking out the dents, and refinishing stocks, changing parts, fixing parts etc ruins the aged patina of a rifle. My rifles have all their damage, burn marks, dents, scratches etc left where they are. All I do is wax the stocks and oil the metal. One of my rifles has a massive burnt stock, the last thing I would do is fix it or repair it. If im buying a rifle and it has been 'restored' i walk away.

@Apocolovids
I'm restoring a brutalized No.1 Mk. III*. It was sporterized, then left on a shelf in a barn for twenty-some odd years. Some kind of cheap oil, I think vegetable oil or perhaps lard, was used in the action at some point, which eventually turned to glue over the years. I had to beat the bolt open with a 2x4, but now that it's apart the internals aren't a complete loss. The finish and fitting new stocks will be the most difficult part of the job. Thanks for the video!
