thank you Ron. My only question is about your lateral raises. You seem to be slightly tilting your wrist so that you are getting some internal shoulder rotation as you go to the top. What about a job, and home workouts? The only reason to work out is to keep you healthy for serving God. Maybe it's the diet also, and yeah, you don't need heavy weight. Shoulder presses are safe when you move your elbows slightly forward and don't bring the weight all the way down to your chest, stopping the weight somewhere around your nose level and keeping a slight bend in the elbows at the top of the press. Same applies for bench press, move the elbows slightly towards your body and keep a slight bend in the elbows at the top end of the press. After having long term injuries to my rotator cuffs on different occasions, once from bench pressing and once from 'behind the body' lateral raises. I've learnt the technique to lifting safely through experience. And you also have to understand your own body's flexibility limits, so knowing the difference between pain in the muscle and pain in the joint is very necessary to avoiding injuries, but still training hard. Pain in the muscle while training is a must if you want to develop bigger ripped muscles, but pain in the joint would lead to injuries eventually Комментарий от : @georgedadon |

Young people under 30, listen to him on this. I use to be pretty strong on bench and especially shoulders. 58 yes old now and right now I'm pretty strong on everything but bench and shoulder press of any kind. I can only use up to 30 lbs barbell bench no pain. I straight leg dead lift with no belt 325 lbs 3 reps two days ago and didn't eat all day before work out. I say that to let you know my body is strong still, but my shoulder is done, for now. Trying to build it up again. It sucks since my other shoulder is fine. Peace and be blessed. I have a torn rotator cuff and I had stems cell injected into the tear, I was told to stay away from any over head movements and I have been struggling to find alternates to the head press. Great info!!!! Wish that I had known this 30 years ago. This guy is a genius, making the complicated obvious. Luckily I was never strong at presses and very strong with arc movements. I'm 56 and can still do most of my workout routine at my lifetime peak strength level. Number one concern: don't get injured. Number 2 is workout out to the point of failure then a little more. Not everyones the same my best friend has dumbbell pressed for 20 years and goes heavy, hard, and doesn't warm up and has never had even a pinch of pain on his shoulders while I can't do even light presses without pain and I have to warm up my body for at least 15 minutes to get my strength in Комментарий от : @E46325mod |
There's more people doing shoulder presses than dont. It's not dangerous if your shoulders can do it without any pain, if there is pain even with light weight and good form it means you physically aren't designed to. Some people's shoulders tendons are on the inside of the shoulder which is optimal for overhead presses, whilst others like myself have an exposed tendon which lays along side the muscle and in this case over head pressing is very bad for it but those people can do dumbbell flies for chest without any problem, go figure. i cant do front shoulder raises, it hurts my shoulder, injured shoulder years ago benching to wide gripped. however the shoulder press in front and stay in the mild range of motion, not locked out or bringing it to far down,, that my shoulders do love. i want to say it just depends on your shoulder and how it is functioning. like i cant do dips at all either, shoulder says no. i listen.. What would help me and those that look up to me is a written out workout plan of what you would recommend to do on what days since some of the information in Arnold's book is outdated.
