@brujahrage
How did you make the vis crystal? You blew right through that part, and I'm having a heck of a time finding them naturally.

You didn’t research the brass, so you can’t make it.

Thanks for the great series! None of the youtubers I typically follow are playing this pack, so when I got to the overworld and had no clue what to do next I had to branch out and found your channel. Very entertaining content!

Thaumcraft is a very intricate mod that I would recommend watching Direwolf20's mod spotlight videos to understand the fundamentals such as the research process which can be very confusing to a first time player. Other than that the Thaumonomicon has some good in depth explanations of the vanilla Thaumcraft mechanics.

A lot of people on here are saying to use the garden trowel, but personally for me I use the Flint Shears. They give me 12 instrumentum per, but it does have another vis, however I’ve never run into a problem with it as I just drain the crucible every now and then (to drain, shift+right click with empty hand). The flint shears are just a heck of a lot cheaper and more convenient for me, as I can just craft it in my inventory while I make brass

If you were to need less than 12 alchemical brass at time for some reason instead of the garden trowel you can use any wooden tool (ie. Wooden shovels) they have 4 instrumentum so with 5 shovels you can get 4 brass. A little more controlled recipe just in case.

You throw the crushed ore in a cauldron (before crafting it with the hammer) to get centrifuged ore and THEN you craft with the hammer and you get the pure dust which can be smelted in the porcelain melter with lava.

In a Magical forest Biome there are patches of Star of Bethlehem flowers. Dig down for a vein of ALL the vis-infused ores. Not in the Quest book... but true none-the-less.

The Garden Trowel has pure instrumentum, and is cheap.

jeez... you are taking too fast here. it might be good to talk normal, instead of talking like you are racing other pple. but when it comes to the pollution, or taint, once it gets too much a rip in reality will form and taint tendrils will form, which will clean the area completely of taint, then leave after a while. the tendrils will also destroy everything else they touch, so it is recommended you keep the cauldron in a chunk all by itself, and far away from everything else until you can get the automation stuff done. otherwise you will find parts of your base destroyed.

In the pack, you will need a LOT of Alchemical Brass to make steam age machines, Astra Sorcery recipes, and Thaumcraft recipes, so it is imperative that you find an efficient way to make it without releasing too much flux into the air. The best method I have found in the pack is to use Garden Trowels to provide the proper essentia to turn Copper into Alchemical Brass. A Garden Trowel provides 12 Instrumentum essentia and it takes 5 Instrumentum to transmute one Copper into one Alchemical Brass. If you recall the teaching of your old math teacher about "Least Common Denominators" we can figure out that if we add 5 Garden Trowels to the Cauldron, we get 60 Instrumentum essentia, and then toss in 12 Copper which uses up a total of 60 Instrumentum essentia, leaving us a grand total of 0 left over essentia to pollute the area. A Garden Trowel can be crafted by combining 1 Stick, 1 Stone, and 1 Rudimentary Shovel... all things that are super cheap and basically accessible via EMC. Furthermore, the cauldron does NOT care about the state of the item's durability.. so... let's make the process as efficient as possible and use the garden trowel beforehand until it has no durability then "melt" it into essentia in the cauldron.

The Garden Trowel can be used to dig up dirt which gets you, obviously, dirt and the possibility of getting Worms to be used in the Strainer Base (with a Fisherman Strainer net) to get use bones, fish, etc. The fastest way to dig up dirt I have found is to grab a few stacks of Dirt from Transmutation Table with my EMC, laying down a bunch of it using my Builder Wand, then Ore Excavating the Dirt to instantly dig it all up. No dirt is lost in the process, so you can toss it right back into the table and reclaim the EMC. This process will get you a bunch of Worms you can use, and a bunch of worn-out Graden Trowels to be used in the Thaumcraft process.

On a related note, save all those worn-out Shears, Saws, Mallets, etc that you end up with from crafting in the Artisan Workbench as well as things like junk worn armor from mob drops in a chest or cabinet to be used in Thaumcraft alchemy recipes... Recycling is good.

TL:DR - Use 5 garden trowels + 12 copper to get 12 Alchemical Brass.

In TC4, you could always see the items in NEI, but couldn't see the recipe unless you had the research. In TC6, you can see all the recipes, but you won't actually be able to craft it without the research.
