The handle is some kind of crap aluminum. Cast I think. If you use this for chopping it is subject to breakage right where the handle attaches to the tang. Once that's done, it's pretty much scrap as the tang isn't long enough to fit a new handle to it. The newer knife may attach in a different manner so buyer beware. It IS made in China

Factory edges on most knives leave a lot to be desired.
You're using the serrations wrong. It's not a saw. It' a fish scaler.
Loose blade you need an allen wrench to tighten and no tang is a deal breaker (and a knife breaker).
The gear you can fit inside the handle can easily fit in your pocket.
The flattened choil eliminates a major cutting area of the blade and forces you to place your finger in front of the finger guard defeating the purpose of the finger guard.
Over all I say NO. Let Rambo keep it.

I had one the only thing that broke was the tip but the rest of it was pretty strong but I didn't care much for the way they had it holding the blade it was some kind of piece of round metal it got loose over time now if you replace that part with something stronger you'll have a blade you could relay on in a pinch

I think I paid $6 for one in the 80s it was camouflage with the compass on the bottom had some matches in the handle some other stuff as well cheesy s*** but cool

I remember getting one of those in the 80's after China realized they could cheat American's with a simple cheap novelty.
I had that and the fingerless gloves (From all the big fight movies) and a few chinese "Ninja stars"
I mean, they all fell apart the same day I got them... but I learned right then... China is getting rich from Stupid American's buying habits.

Fast forward a few decades... We only got WAY dumber.

Buy American or move to the country you really support.

You won't catch me buying crap from Walmart or Amazon.
I don't support anti-American business.

I have that knife and I have always considered it a last resort but I'm expressed by how it preformed here. Not that I think it's a great knife but I never thought it would make it through the tests you have preformed here. 😮 Of course I wouldn't take it to Dave 😂 He'd beat the he'll out of it 😂😂

I've had one of these for about as long as this video has been out, I would definitely rather use my machete for chopping and shaving, but it would probably be okay for defending against a predator, and the compass and kit hilt or a big plus! it's worth $8 👍

You kept saying that it'd be better with a full tang but please don't forget the fact that the original K-BAR knives the military used didn't even have a full tang. It has what is referred to as a "rat tail" tang

Loved knife when they came out as kid with the ball compass on ends but the handle was kind flimsy and came unscrewed when you were trying use surated end to saw small limbs
I got looking realized the locking nut on the small tang wasn't all that great and used some lock tight to stop it from falling apart but they were only good for few season

As for these new ones I expect about same handles need be longer with longer blade more robust tang that's got better lock nut system the longer handle so you have real space to store survival stuff

Old ones the stuff was tiny and some times weak like fishing line or tiny hooks

And a heavy butt plate in a hammer shape with recessed compass so you don't smash it if you do hammer with it

It’s a gimmick knife even the real Rambo clones that sold for $100 back in the 80’s where gimmick. Nothing wrong with them, but they are what they are good wall hangers

It's a rip off of the Aitor Jungle King l knife, I owned one 40 years ago in 1984, an excellent knife. This knockoff one doesn't have the multifunction slingshot sheath. I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery.

I like how you tried to give this $8 knife the benefit of the doubt. What knife I would like to see tested is the “SmittyBilt”chopper. Not sure if it has a specific name but it’s made by SmittyBilt,it’s 11” w/ a 6” blade and was VERY sharp out of box and very heavy as far as choppers go

Been carrying this in my car for 3 years.
Took it to a professional to get sharpened because it came dull with basically a flat tip but it's pointed and plenty sharp now.
$8 for the knife, $15 for the sharpening not bad for $23

The real question is will this knife endure a real life scenario fully knowing its limitations. Yeah, it was made in China-- more than likely by slave labor. How else to explain the $8 price tag? As you know a dull knife is a dangerous knife. You can really hurt yourself using one. So, before deploying I'd need to sharpen it, making it whole and righteous. On a positive note, this is the knife I'd choose if there was nothing else to choose from.

I. Have one of these in my emergency kit it has a few good uses one of which is the one i have has a good sharp saw blade that will at need cut through at least two to three inch branches. The blabe is sharp enough to work with as well. Several of the knives i gave are strategically placed around the house where they are not easily seen so score some silent defensive tools.

I had one years ago I still have the blade and broken handle. > I was chopping some small branches wet wood in the back yard. The handle broke off 3/4 if an inch above the guard. The metal is cast and this was a thin spot. The blade flew back and over my shoulder. Close call. This is dangerous junk. AS PUT TOGETHER.. However the blade is ok for the cutting. But do not force that handle... It can't handle real work.

I broke mine with a 45 ACP hollow point round. I shot it right through the middle at seven yards. And it is NOT stainless.

i bought 3 of them,,,,lay them in the floor of each of my cars where they will stay....not a 100dollar knife for sure,,,,but for the price, it may well save your life. Sharpen it up good so you can shave with it,,,,,it wont hold an edge as long as an expensive blade,,,,but you dont need it to,,,,dont use it as you would constantly as a combat knife and it should serve you well. its made well and has lotsa features which i hope never to need. Same as my roscoe,,,lotsa features and effective and small,,,,i hope to never need it....be careful out there,,,

One guy on utube drilled the pin hole put and used and old drill bit to pin it. He said it has lasted through batoning and other hard use. Course that doesn’t help its edge holding ability.

Mine cuts pretty darn well after some sharpening with the Lansky diamond stones. It is infinitely better than nothing and for personal protection??? Remember the bit in the Crocodile Dundee movie where here says to a thief with a knife...."that's not a knife, THIS is a knife". I think that would work. WARNING!! I have two of these, purchased years apart. They had to be sharpened. The clip point was flat. I have them at different spots in the house should their be a home invasion. Harbor Freight's machete had no edge on it at all when I got it.

I fell sucker to buying one of those "Rambo" style knives at Harbor Freight. Took it home and tried out all the "features" that it had. The cutting edge was useless, unless soft butter was the material to be parted. When it came time to baton some firewood, the thing came apart on the first blow to the blade - the handle and blade separated where they were joined by the rivet. So much for my $8 experiment. I was surprised that your example held up to throwing at the target board - several times, in fact. Nice demo, though. Cheers.

I have had a few different versions of the First Blood Rambo knife. Some of them was better than others, but none of them was so horrible I’d call them junk. Biggest problem was always the blade coming loose, which was easy to fix. But any knife, is better than no knife in most survival situations, there are exceptions to that. And the last thing you want to do in a survival situation is to throw a knife.

I gave a HF Rambo knife to my sin in law as a joke. He loves it and uses it all the time. Says it is a great knife. He doesn't beat on it but it has cut up many cows.

It worked for me in deer camp notching the tree for my climber stand n I've used it for hunting and camping.......it's a budget survival knife it gets the job done for a cheap survival knife......ive never had to tighten the set screw

I have one and it came reasonably sharp. It’s quite a bit sharper now, but the secondary bevel was pretty good when I go it, so it wasn’t a lot of work.

I worked at a sporting goods store.
We got a sales flyer for a "compass in the handle survival knife". They were $2.99 each. Less by the 100.
I laughed at the thought that a anyone would want a piece of junk like that. I showed it to the other guys and they laughed too.
I threw the flyer in the trash can.
About two weeks later Rambo hit the big screen and the phone started ringing off the hook. It was soccer mom's wanting to buy their little boys a compass in the handle survival knife.
I could have sold a thousand of them. If every soccer mom bought a pair of sneakers or a tennis racket we probably wouldn't have gone bankrupt.
My prejudice cost my company a fortune.
Somebody gave me one of those Harbor Frieght survival knives.
I could get by just fine with one of those knives. It's a lot better than nothing at all.
