The British call dessert -pudding. But in this case it is a pudding. I love pudding - and sticky toffee is one of the best, fairly filling too so you could skip the main and just get a starter and the sticky toffee pudding - cos you dont want to be too full before tackling a pudding. I enjoyed this, and I have been watching British food vids for 4 months, as I will be there in September!!!! Are you from Canada? Комментарий от : @josephcollins6033 |
You have to be joking. This is either junk food or quick stuff you'd whip up during the week at home, nothing special. You wouldn't go out to a restaurant and scour the menu for this garbage. American food must be godawful if you think this stuff is good. Комментарий от : @stephenoneill245 |
Okay, just have to say, around 19:00... store in the background, "Mags and Fags". Imagine how confusing that would be to an American. "Bringing the far left and the far right together in harmony." "NRA & LGBT opening a store together". (yes, I know it's not referencing either) Комментарий от : @SuperOpinion8ed |

Bubble and squeak is traditionally just leftover cabbage and potato fried together, sometimes with onion. Not sure why they put meat in it at Hawskmoor, as that's very unusual. Комментарий от : @bilbobaggins706 |

It was actually an American that fought against the British tradition of serving fish and chips on old newspapers. I know because I was that American. Was shocked to be served that way. Pointed out the poison of the ink, and the fact that all kinds of hands had been all over those newspapers. While fighting against this unhealthy and unclean way of serving the the fish and chips, I actually supplied my favorite spot with paper towels for my orders from there, which were fairly regular. Some Brits were disappointed, said that the newspaper made it taste better, and even today in protest, many serve fish and chips in paper or boxes with old newspaper clippings. Have even known a few that will transfer their portion of fish and chips to newspaper immediately after purchase. Комментарий от : @stacypotts6341 |

Hey Sam. Literally just had this for our tea. Home made mince beef pie, and here's how you do it.. using red potatoes peel and cube ready for your mash.. make a basic shortcrust pastry with lard and butter (don't use all butter).. cut up a yellow onion and fry in veg oil until they're brown around the edges, add 80/20 minced beef and cook till all brown, don't remove the juices... IMPORTANT PART sprinkle 2 Oxo cubes into beef and onion and stir till dissolved.. mix 4 heap tbsp of beef bisto into 350ml boiling water (this will be very thick don't worry it should be).. pour into beef stir well until thoroughly mix the switch pan of and allow to cool down before putting it into the bottom of pastry and put top on.. bonus.. using a masher (you can use a ricer if you have to) add 3 tbsp butter and continue mashing then add 100ml of milk and whip together using a fork..the mash should be firm enough that you can "shovel" it on to your fork, think fresh snow onto a spoon.. Sam the mash you make is to runny 😂😂😂 Комментарий от : @dawnc1419 |

Most of the foods you covered are poor people food which reminds me of the best food down here in Louisiana: Red beans and rice, gumbo, etc. I was hoping for Toad in the Hole and also Yorkshire Pudding. Комментарий от : @HChampagne63 |
Don’t go Hawksmoor for breakfast. Nobody pays anything near that for a fried breakfast. Try something real old fashioned, Regency Cafe in SW1, Terry’s cafe in SE1, Pellici in East London’s Bethnal Green, or my favourite in West London, where it’s served in a iron skillet, Cafe Paolo. The color of the yolk depends on the hen's diet. I live in Saudi Arabia and I can find eggs with light and dark colored yolks. I prefer the light-colored yolks because I'm an American. Комментарий от : @DesertScorpionKSA |
This is not the top ten things to eat. More like the only ten things you need to eat. Having said that, I’d add Sunday roast, Chinese and Indian food.😂 Комментарий от : @sonny9054 |

THANK YOU....for dispelling that tired, lazy, old trope about crap British food that we see in every US Comedy show ("Bad teeth, Bad food"....come on comedy writes... do better). British cities have just about the most varied selection of food I've ever seen. I've lived in America and I now live in France. The (older) French are typically VERY unadventurous with their food. I love traditional French food but it's actually quite difficult to find anything else outside of the cities. Even British pubs in rural areas have British, Chinese, Indian, American..etc options on their menus. I had some amazing food in America (BBQ Ribs at John Barleycorns, Rochester Minnesota. I still have dreams about them ... but that was 1995, maybe they are gone). Steak at "the Angus Barn", Raleigh, North Carolina, and their amazing wine cellar. I did struggle with the American concept of quantity=quality sometimes (and the whole speed of service. Order, Eat, Pay ... get out). But, for sheer variety, I never visited anywhere as diverse as London. It's a lifetime of eating there. This evening I shall be eating Wild Boar (Sanglier) shot in our local woods, and slow cooked in Red Wine from grapes grown on our property. Loved the video. A foodie enjoying his food. English food got a bad rap in the post war period when food was rationed and the country was on its knees. It somehow stuck and took a long time to shake off. Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
Puddings are an English thing because we were early adopters of coal. Coal fires favour boiling Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
Shepherds pie/cottage pie is something you make at home. No one goes out for it. Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
Fish and chips up North is sometimes cooked in beef dripping. They don't live as long up there.. Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
Pie and mash actually lives up to the stereotype of English food being bland. Needs lots of salt pepper and vinegar Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
£37 for breakfast? You twat. Комментарий от : @nickaustin8334 |
After watching the whole video, I'm so sorry you had to eat that NON British food. The only thing you had that was British was the fish and chips and the shepherds pie, even the Bacon "Butty" was wrong. Bangers and mash with "Italian" sausage ? well its not British then is it, its Italian sausage! If you want to come to England to try our food, head North, away from London! Комментарий от : @nicholascook9173 |
oh Sam,...Sam Sam Sam , that is not a typical English breakfast. I'm so sorry that your first encounter with an "English" breakfast was some ponced up over the top £30 London novelty . You wont get a typical English breakfast at some fancy restaurant. Bone marrow? bubble and squeak? wtf? I think that was a tourist trap mate! Комментарий от : @nicholascook9173 |

I love the English Breakfast I had in Northampton on a visit to late Princess Diana's childhood palace-like home Althorpe which was made of potato crisps, scrambled eggs (don't like gooey yolks), big mushroom, bangers, toasted tomato, toasts. Don't like pudding, bone marrow & others. Комментарий от : @victoriaaletaaustria2817 |
Also, Clotted cream is the only cream that you should all have on scones, with jam at an afternoon tea. Комментарий от : @Patricia-rc5gn |
Bangers and mash with Italian sausages!!..no way, good British bangers always, pile of regular buttery mash and gravy. Комментарий от : @Patricia-rc5gn |
Bone marrow! Never seen it on a full English. This is a very upmarket ‘fry up’ Комментарий от : @Patricia-rc5gn |
You never realize how silly the American hand-fork swapping is until you're aware of it. Keep the fork in the left hand. Комментарий от : @stanbalog354 |
Love love this video, the British government should be paying you fortunes for this! Please do more of these long form videos (Paris Madrid etc) just fabulous!! Love you Sam Комментарий от : @chrisjcmp69 |
@doesn't need to be complex to be good tasting food. shepherds pie is our staple for 'homely food'. having a bad day? shepherds pie changes everything! Комментарий от : @CorrosionnHD |
See pie and mash it totatally different up north, mainly the gravy. this you have isn't bad, but us northerners do it better. Комментарий от : @CorrosionnHD |

There’s nothing like a full English breakfast (including black pudding - yum!!). And for dessert, I’m a fan of treacle sponge with hot custard - so delicious. English food gets a bad rap and it shouldn’t. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal in the UK. Комментарий от : @cak813 |

I must have eaten in the wrong places in London. Next time, I’ll check out what you ate. I did like the fish and chips. Комментарий от : @janet8418 |
Sam, you’ve done British food proud. I am an American, recently immigrated to England. I’ve been visiting Britain for over forty years and have never had a bad meal. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy the fare, I’ve eaten at fine restaurants and food vendors and never been disappointed. Great video! Комментарий от : @frankwillet1609 |
Really enjoyed this as an Englishman and wannabe foodie. Changes I would make are. 1) that breakfast was overly pretentious. Mutton sausage and bacon chop is not typical. Just head to any cafe or bar with decent Google reviews and you'll find a solid 'full English'. 2) fish and chips is not native to London and always looks weird. In Yorkshire it's traditionally fried in beef dripping which adds colour and flavour. You won't get that in London. 3) I'd give pie and liquor a swerve. It's not as iconic as people would have you think. It was never really eaten outside of East London and is being kept alive by old working class people. I'd go for a steak and ale pie in a gastropub or if you're in the North West try hotpot or scouse. 4) any foodie experience in the UK needs a Sunday roast. It's an institution. Nice video but I have to say I always find it strange how casually some Americans use the word "w@nker" as a Britishism yet beep out when you say 'sh%t'. Makes me think that you don't know what it means. Комментарий от : @alexsmith854 |
Such a fair video , thankyou Sam , love you. Комментарий от : @pumpkin1772 |
I’m not a fan of the black pudding or blood sausage. I tried it at the Goring Hotel and didn’t like the unique taste of blood. One thing that anyone visiting London should also taste are the warm egg custard cakes that are served as a part of dim sum at the Royal China Club at 40 Baker St in Marylebone. Just the yummiest thing ever. I had the Scotch eggs at Fortnum and Mason. It was good. Комментарий от : @heythave |
You neglected roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. But most of all STILTON cheese , including Stilton soup…..to die for! Комментарий от : @ginnyhogan6386 |
