I’m wondering how many pedals do you two have ?
I often wonder how many pedals you have at that pedal show and JHS and pedals and effects.. it’s not a contest but I still can’t help but wonder

@petersage5157
I've just gone to copper on a practice amp that has clean, overdrive, and distortion channels switchable in parallel. (Considered multiple series/parallel options, but with three channels that would require a micro and relays (or a plethora of switches) and complicated status indicators, and I wanted to stick to simple DPDT pushbuttons for selecting the channels and "Millenium [sic] Bypass" channel indicators.) Nice to see validation that my idea has some merit.

Oh, and in case anyone is interested, the summing amplifier in my amp goes into a low power MOSFET that sees only half the op amps' supply voltage to simulate a SE power pentode, so depending on the Master Volume setting, even the clean channel can kick the snot out of the little MOSFET for some good power valve compression. Then the signal goes through a simple Marshall cab sim to a spankin' clean power amp with its own volume control.

@allatsea2746
My 2 cents: 1) I've played with running pedals in parallel for a few months. Russian Big Muff (a lot of low mids) & Red Witch Fuzzgod (not a lot of low end), Delay & Reverb (very clear repetitions as not affected by the reverb), digital pedals with poor AD/DA-conversion etc.. I dropped the whole concept because I prefer very homogeneous, focused guitar sounds. I came up with some impressive sounds, partly because a lot of times it sounded like 2 or even 3 guitars, which might work in a life situation, if you don't mind the switching; but in the studio I always preferred a second guitar take that I could pan and effect differently in the mixing process. 2) About the term "phase". A lot of people are confused when it comes to phase issues because a lot of people (and mixers and pedals and ...) talk about or switch it and what they mean is: polarity.

@riel777
Is running your Delays/Reverb through the Effects Loop of the amp the same concept as running the Delays/Reverb in Parallel on the BOSS ES-8 switcher?

@abelkikkert
Thanks for nice show on serial vs parallel ODs. I have wandered why the TC Electronics NovaDrive didn’t get mentioned. It’s a fantastically sounding pedal with independent analog OD and Distortion engines which can be run in series and parallel. It also has the incredibly useful feature that 16 presets can be programmed in which are MIDI switchable which makes it a great partner for the G2. Have been using this in my rig with Mesa Lonestar Special for years and can in essence get any possible sound combination out of it that I want. Encourage you to have a listen/play. Great show, Bas

@JIMJAMSC
Let me honest here ok? I have accumulated enough pedals "mainly ods" that I could open a store. We don't buy them for versatility or tracking down that holy grail tone. We buy pedals like women buy shoes. When you are gassing and have a hole burning in your wallet, a new colorful pedal fights off the gas. With enough patch cords to wire a aircraft carrier, I sit with all my pedals and just tinker. To 99.9% of the public there is NO difference but our quest for more gear and tones never ends.

@elliotgreen987
So what happens if you split a sound between 2 overdrives at the start of the signal chain but only place a buffer before one of the pedals and then mix them back together? Does the impedance average out or do you only get high end signal loss on the signal from the un-buffered pedal?

@ian__wilson
Quick Tip: If you are going to prop your guitar up against a wall using the headstock like Mick did, turn it 180º so that the strings are facing the wall. This way any extra stress on the neck will be counteracted by the strings pulling in the opposite direction. This reduces the chances of the neck bowing under the string tension and the extra pressure of the guitar's weight on the neck.

At some time in the very early 80’s and still at school I tried my Boss DS-1 and a mate’s MXR D+ together both in series (noisy) and - with the aid of many crocodile clips and short guitar leads - parallel (just horrible). I’m glad technology has moved on.

@sogorman58
With parallel one can direct one signal into the Bright side of a Marshall and the other signal into the Normal channel of the amp and adjust volumes to taste. Or, if one has a Kendrick Black Gold with both a Blackface-voiced input and a Tweed-voiced input, the parallel technique will be expanded exponentially, causing a tear in the fabric of the Universe. The resulting event horizon will swallow Time itself, and existence will cease.
Комментарий от : @sogorman58

@sticksnstones23
I have tried tons of drive pedals. A good one will have a nice sweep of light gain to saturated gain. It will have an eq that can accentuate the level of gain to taste. It can clean up excellent with the guitar volume. There is one that stands out as the leader of the pack. It’s none of the boutique pedals. It’s not the OCD. It is the Boss Blues Driver. The low end is tight and enormous. The high end is articulate as hell. The strings sound stringy thru this pedal. Put a clean boost after it for solos. Incredible pedal.

@paulgambon3510
FYI, Peter Greens LP was “magnetically” out of phase, as the neck pickup’s magnet was re-installed 180 degrees from stock. Most guitars are typically set up with a switch to make the pickups “electrically” out of phase. The tonal difference is quite significant.

@stevenpippin6079
I would have loved to see the affect a klon type would've had both before and after a parallel blend. Very interesting to think of a little extra gain and wave form shaping going into two different signals then catching those gains stages and being blended back together as well. I imagine stacking something after would mute the point a bit, but still a fun exercise for science.

@grega1207
Strymon SUNSET dual overdrive is a real killer in this department. A channel, separate B channel, you can put A into B in series, B into A in series, or A and B parallel with each other. Add in the knobs on each channel to dial in the variables for each and you have a smorgasborg of sounds. Add in a Selah Quartz V3 controller (SUNSET TRS cable out to the Selah) and you can save any number of drive combinations you like. A really simple, space saving, killer solution for those not wanting to have 6 or 8 drives on their board! (sorry Mick, had to say it !!). Of course if someone were to give me a King of Tone, I do believe I would happily add a second drive pedal. :-)

Great demonstration, and something I'm going to experiment with in my Helix. The Empress Multidrive is like a take on the old Craig Anderton Quadrafuzz from the 80s - good stuff. The ultimate parallel fuzz was the "hex fuzz" from the Roland GR100 and GR300 - but that's a bit of and edge case... but what a great sound. Worked quite will for a Mr. Fripp.

Thank you very much for sharing your insight on this topic. I asked for this a long time ago as I am already running my drive pedals (and delays for that matter) in parallel for a number of years. To me, the most important reason for running (drive) pedals in parallel is versatility indeed. Both pedals retain their individual tonal characteristics and I can blend those two sounds.
Комментарий от : @dutchguitarist2062

@colaboytje
Loved the episode. I learned something new.
I'm still stuck with a question though. If you split the signal coming from the guitar in 2, does that mean that the current is split in 2? And does that mean that you need to turn the gain and/or volume up on both pedals?

Experimented a bit with parallel , but in the end , was deterred by the introduction of further buffers, flattening and otherwise having a negative impact on overall sound.Tried to convince myself it wasn't that noticable, but that didn't work for long.Was primarily using the inexpensive , new, EHX Switchblade Pro unit, and would assume that more satisfying results could be obtained with a higher quality unit[Swiss Things?],(EHX great for the price point, but very relative) .The larger idea of parallel mixing is exciting(Wah?),if a little intimidating.Being a believer in Fuzz and "vintage", Neve, and unusual driven sounds, I've repeatedly come up against buffers as a issue and overall enemy,; just fine with the cleans, but engage that Drive/Fuzz section ,- ouch.
Now, if the Angry Driver had the mojo of the Keeley Phat Mod; not quite as good as the older , Germanium, release, but what do you expect? That IS the pissed off sound of Rock coming back looking for a rematch.
"State B" would be the larger part of the American South, where , along with a majority of their Northern and Western counterparts, geography is NOT a strong suit.Not sure, dear Mick, where you'd get the idea that the educational system here was succeeding on any level.
